We provide life-saving blood products to pets in need and compassionate care to the pet heroes who donate.
Donations with the Las Vegas Animal Blood Bank (LVABB) are performed by licensed veterinary technicians under veterinarian supervision, with care taken to ensure a stress-free experience. The process involves shaving and sterilizing a small patch of fur on the donor's neck, followed by a collection while the pet rests calmly on their side. Occasionally, a light sedative may be administered prior to donation to help keep donors comfortable during their visit.
Our blood bank relies heavily on pre-screened community pets who donate every few months, with each donation saving up to two lives - one through red blood cells and the other one through plasma. After collection, donations are processed using our state-of-the-art centrifuge to separate them into these components, which are then stored in specialized refrigeration and freezer units until needed. On occasion, we may also reach out to our donors for emergency whole blood donations for patients in critical need.
